More Sample Sale PIcks-Thurs. Feb. 26th

"I just posted below about patent leather no longer trending as strongly in handbags but that's not the case with this season's must have slim belt. If you haven't been watching all the awards shows, you might not know that the slim belt placed on your waist is HUGE! Every season the best way to keep your wardrobe current is by adding one new trend to your outfit. Clients always comment "but I don't care about being trendy". You don't have to be trendy but you do have to stay current. One new piece can revive your whole wardrobe. So simple. Check out Mark Jacobs grass owl belt. Use a bright belt like MJ is showing and I guarantee you and your wardrobe will be smiling.

Style Tip-Consider pairing a belt on all of last season's dresses as well as your blousy baby doll tops for a fun update. Learning to use what you have with what is happening each season will stretch your wardrobe farther.w

The right handbag means confidence, power and the glue for a great outfit. Have you noticed how the Olsen twins as tiny as they are, wear the biggest handbags possible? Not only do they wear the big bag, they know how to hold their bag,.Sublminally sending the signal "don't mess with me." I want you to send the same signals at a fraction of the price. Don't take your hard earned money and plunk it down on an overbranded status handbag. Do, click on over to Gilt. com and pick up Bagdley Mischka's large patent merlot tote for under $300 bucks.

Style tip- Patent is not trending as strongly this season but the extra shoulder strap is. Go for the unexpected, choose a fun color like the merlot shown above. One great thing about colored patent, you can wear it all year long, costing you pennies a day.

At least Style happened after the Oscars.

I don't know about you but this year's Oscar fashions looked more like a wedding convention than red carpet Hollywood glamour. I couldn't figure out who was the bride and who were her bridesmaid's. Usual style stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman sadly didn't deliver. Making matters worse, designer John Galliano for Frida Pinto, Prade for Jessica Beil and Rodarte for Reese Witherspoon created dresses much more suited for the runway than the red carpet.

If you read my blog regularly you know I love to write about Marisa Tomei. This cute, sassy, sexy actress 9 times out of 10 rules the red carpet. If Versace had created Marisa's stunning Oscar dress in old Hollywood red or this season's icy grey, Marisa would have won best-dressed all evening long. These days an award as coveted as the golden statue.

The evening thankfully wasn't a total bust. Marisa a devotee of Indy designers chose to wear after the Oscars, CFDA nominee and my good friend Juan Carlos Obando. Thanks JC for giving me ONE dress I could get REALLY happy about. The nude palette paired with strong color blocking and slight asymetrical shoulder were fresh, innovative and the RIGHT dress for Marisa's tiny frame.

Style Tip-When hiring a stylist or trusting your best friend, don't be afraid to double check their opinion. If you're having professional pictures or video taken on a very important evening, Shoot both film and video beforehand. What is right for camera may not be right for film.

Light As A Feather

Today I offer you Naven's feather, long dangle earring over at Shopflick.com. Anyone remember the bi-level haircut in the 80's? LIKE totally Thompson Twins. My mother, my fashion icon dared me to get out of my comfort zone and try something different. As your self appointed fashion fairy godmother I double dare you to do the same. Today, one isn't the loneliest number.

Style tip- When wearing this season's one arm trend, balance your bare opposite arm with a long dramatic drop earring. I call this IMBALANCE-BALANCE. Perfect symmetry can actually make you look bigger. When you throw your body out of symmetry you are creating smoke and mirrors around your less than favorite parts of your figure.

Sample Sale Pick Thurs. Feb. 19

Where my peeps at? Today's sample sale pick is from on of the classiest designers ever. Mr. Oscar De La Renta. Oscar knows how to dress a women, that's for sure. Sexy but always deeply feminine. I love this patent triangle peep. Why? this is the sexiest open toe Mary Jane's with an architectural heel I have seen in a long time.

Style Tip-Whenever you release the toes, you release the body entirely. Adding criss-cross straps and a platform heel will elongate and slim not only your legs but your hips as well. This is the perfect naughty secretary heel. A no brainer for your skinny jeans and an edgy option for this season's summer dresses.

Double style-tip-If the weather is cooler in your climate, you can still wear and open toe shoe, just throw on a pair of patterned or opaque tights. Styling is all about the opposites, what you think is absolutely wrong, could be exactly what you need to try.

Wow! Check out Dolce & Gabbana's canvas satchel with leather drawstring closure and gold tone hardware. Originally $1,710 on sample sale price for $492. Now, that's my kind of bag. Seeing the luxury brands at a fraction of the price really devalues their branding and marketing efforts for SO called luxury. Let their loss be your gain. You know my theory. Buy high end designer low and sell fast. Wear it... enjoy it... sell it...repeat process. Clothing is not an investment, when you buy it and how you sell it is.

Style tip- Dolce and Gabbana usually quite flashy is keeping it quieter with the organic use of canvas This bag will go with you everywhere from work to weekend. The right handbag is a powerful signal of confidence. Cheat the rest of your wardrobe with the mass-tige retailers. Target, Forever 21, Zara but let the bag be high price at sample sale pricing.

Pierre Hardy Minds The GAP

Bristish Vogue.com and sister site Style.com are raving about Pierre Hardy's collabo with the Gap. I love the French shoe designers and Pierre Hardy is one of the best. Not a huge fan of mass-tige partnerships and definitely not a fan of the Gap but this season's strappy wood platform is right on the money, under a hundy to be exact. Suede straps atop a chunky wood platform heel, sounds good to me. Both Vogue sites show the rusty suede color which I love. If you aren't rolling in the green or being green then atleast WEAR the green. Ohm, let the money making mantras begin. Pair with your favorite sundress, hoodie and boyfriend jean. Go on girl, go green, go get it. Have fun on this Friday the 13th THE day before D day, I mean V day. Give your self the gift and the hug.

Style Tip-Apparently Gap's pubs are not aware of the press this shoe is receiving. You will not see it on the home page. Search shoes, hidden at the very bottom of the second page in the least appealing color white. Style- The three strap.

Gap's mainstream choice is your gain. You have a stylist in your corner babe. Go on now, quantities are limited.
Even at the Gap.

Double style Tip- Pick a necklace that is completely out of your comfort zone. Do you channel Audrey Hepburn? Throw a curve ball to your LIttle Black Dress. Icons are meant to be updated too. If Holly Go-lightly were here today, she surely would be ready for something else besides a string of pearls. Can I get an AMEN to that?
